Fact sheet
On the Óseyrartangi peninsula in Ölfus, where Iceland’s largest river, the Ölfusá, meets the North Atlantic.
Black Sand Hotel opened in April 2026 with 70 guestrooms designed to sit quietly in the raw landscape of the South Coast. Minimalist interiors use natural materials, soft textures, and a restrained palette, while wide windows frame the black volcanic beach, the ocean, the river estuary, and the mountains rising beyond the hotel.
It is the first fully furnished DUX hotel in Iceland: the Swedish furniture house has outfitted the public areas, the restaurant, and every room in bespoke pieces. Musical elements throughout the hotel are inspired by Icelandic multi-instrumentalist Ólafur Arnalds.

Rooms
The Classic King (19 m²) and Superior King (about 29 m²) rooms have a DUX King bed, a walk-in shower with [ comfort zone ] products, Quagliotti linens, Garnier-Thiebaut towels, an open wardrobe, a desk, a L’OR coffee and tea set and a stocked minibar.
Nine suites, ranging from the 40 m² Junior Suites to the 73 m² Signature Suite, feature separate living and dining areas.

ÓMUR
